3R Stimulus funding for Casper Hoogenraad and Feline Lindhout

Casper Hoogenraad and Feline Lindhout received 3R Stimulus funding to set-up an animal-free neurobiological model system at the Cell Biology department of Utrecht University.

The 3R Stimulus Fund supports ideas resulting in replacing, reducing or refining experiments on laboratory animals.

With this grant, Casper Hoogenraad and Feline Lindhout will generate hiPSC-derived neuron cultures to use as model system for neurobiological research. This innovative model system provides a 3R alternative for the animal-dependent primary neuron cultures, which to date are abundantly used by neurobiological research groups.

The central organization of the hiPSC-neuron cultures at the Cell Biology department allows a large-scale application of this novel neurobiological model system by multiple research groups of Utrecht University.
